Careful maintenance of anodes and the anolyte system is vital to the coating process: the anodes because they are responsible for the completion of the electrical circuit, and the anolyte because it controls the pH of the paint bath. Anode dissolution must be regularly monitored so that worn anodes may be replaced promptly.

The anolyte system should be checked regularly for slime-mold/bacteria growth that could block anolyte circulation. The conductivity probe in the anolyte reservoir should be cleaned periodically, and the anolyte conductivity should be laboratory checked to verify the tank metering device. All stainless steel anode materials are not equally resistant to the acidic conditions in anolyte cells: some stainless steel anode materials dissolve in the anolyte cells faster than others.
